It's probably worth pointing out that the Google Lunar X PRIZE has an associated program to send your photo and a short message with the winning craft to the Moon. It's called Lunar Legacy.

Emmm... Maybe you should add the option "I wouldn't put my name on the Moon even for free since I don't see why anyone would want to do that". Is it some sort of modern graffiti? Like writing "Joe was here" on a tree, only further away? Sorry, I just don't get it. Darn, I must be rather thick... Anybody care to explain it to me?

Indeed Alex, not everybody will like the idea of writing messages on the Moon. That is the purpose of the poll :)

Note also, to call writing on the Lunar surface Graffiti is a little limited. Besides the fact that graffiti is as old as civilization itself (see wikipedia), there are more profitable things you can do than just that! You can advertise products :)

What I really want to see on the moon is something I can detect from Earth! If I can't go there myself I want a robotic rover I can drive from here on Earth. That I'd be willing to pay some money for say a 15 min drive via some internet link. Feasibility anyone?

If I'm filthily rich, probably yes. But also depends on how will my name be inscribed: being scratched in font 9.5 in a south pole crater, or on a big placard only invisible in a total eclipse.
Also, the question is not whether my name's on moon, but how many people know that it's on the moon. Guess it's anyway an "earthly" propaganda.
